My Reverse rotation Lister D that I have just acquired. The engine is seized but hopefully should free up. The mag is now producing a spark after freeing up, stripping and cleaning.
The engine is nearly stripped. The bore had about an inch of water on top of the piston, this getting in through the exhaust valve that was partly open. I have removed the water and have filled the bore with Duck oil in a hope that it will help free the piston.
The timing chain was fairly solid but after going through the parts washer (using diesel and the wash) it has freed up.
After about a week of soaking in duck oil I resorted to the large hammer and a block of wood. A few sharp taps and the piston was free. I worked it up and down the bore so that it would scrape away the rust until it finally turned over completely. I can know remove the flywheel and crank.
The flywheel key came out without much problem using my home made extractor / puller. Crank and piston know removed. Bad news—Con rod is bent and so is crank pin. I suspect that this has been done by a previous restorer trying to remove these items. This will put a hold on this project until I can find a donor engine with a good crank.
I have manage to purchase a very rusty engine which maybe I will be able to remove the crank. I will start stripping as soon as the penetrating oil has had a chance to do some work.
The rusty engine gave up a few bits but the crank was no good so I will have to look for another. Managed to save the piston and rod, rockers, hopper tops, and a few other bits. All handy for the spares box.
Found another engine on ebay being sold as spares or repair. This is located about 8 miles away. Bidding ended at £47 pounds but worth it for all the spares.
Crank shaft removed from spares engine and is now in place -
